Sickness Page Added

March 27 2009

AI have been wanting to expand this section for a long time, but wasnt able to do so because of space limitations (the "Care" page is already too long as it is). So I split it off into its own section.

This section has more pictures, links to common medications, and expanded explanations on other topics like prevention and euthanasia.

Please do NOT e-mail me or leave comments asking for advice on sickess. Use one of the linked forums instead. I do participate on them occasionally. I dont read comments every day, and have no way of responding to you even if I did.

I have also done some minor corrections on a few of the breed-specific pages. I had incorrectly stated that Orandas only have wen on the top of their heads...that is false. They all have full hoods, just like Lionheads. It is only red-cap Orandas that have half hoods.

I am also constructing a links page finally. This will have a wide range of links to just about anything goldfish related, including breeders, forums, and other goldfish websites. I will even include links to some non-goldfish sites (bettas, guppies, ect..).

Due to popular demand, I will be adding a breeding section as well once I get caught up. While I have never bred goldfish myself, I get asked about it all the time. This section will have links to breeding-specific websites and articles, as well as a summary of the process (goldfish reproductive cycles, ect..).

Massive Update

October 30, 2008

Ok, this is the rollout for the new version of the site. I decided to redesign it to make it load faster and make it more compatible. This site is primarily designed for Firefox 3.0 and IE7 however, and those are the only browsers I test it on.

I also added new graphics and tried to make it easier to read. In addition:

Added a detailed flow chart to the "Care and Feeding" section which illustrates how your Biological Filter works in detail. Also expanded on the text in that section as well.
I have added many many new pictures in an attempt to represent the breeds better.
I have corrected many sections under Breeds because the information was wrong, inaccurate, or needed further explanation.
I have added many more details on the Breeds page to give a better explanation on things like anatomy, scale types, patterns and fin types. I have also added graphics to help explain these things too.
I have modified and updated the information sections (care, setup ect..) to make the easier to understand and to correct some information I later found to be wrong or inaccurate.

Some things that are NOT in this update:

No, there is no site index yet. This is not difficult to do, but it is time consuming. I will finish it when I have time. This will eventually become a place to quickly jump to any other section of the site.
No, there is no Links section yet. This is also not difficult to do, but it is time consuming. I will finish it when I have time. This section will eventually become a place to consolidate links found throughout the rest of the site.
No, there is no section on Breeding yet. I was originally going to include this, but I dont feel comfortable explaining it yet as I only have a vague idea of the process.

I will still be doing some polishing of the site in the coming weeks, so this is not the last of the corrections. But the bulk of the corrections and updates are complete. Oh yeah, and I now have an e-mail address (exoticgoldfish@gmail.com) as well.

Glossary Updated

April 28, 2008

Added some links in the plants/aquascaping section. These have to do mostly with tutorials on making your own styrofoam backgrops.

A lot of people dont know this, but styrofoam is inert and wont interact with water, so you can use it to make fake rock backgrounds for your aquarium. The process is kind of involved, but these sites will tell you how to do that.

Yes, I finally got around to it. All of these links are active (I tested them myself). If you have any you want me to add, e-mail me at the address below.

Glossary Updated

I have added quite a few terms to the glossary page. I also updated the picture for Hornwort in the live plants section (the previous picture was not really hornwort, though it looked similar).

Links still coming

April 23, 2008

I havn't forgotten about the links section....I am still putting it together. I the meantime I made some minor bug fixes (the Jikin page is now working) and have added code for banner ads. I placed them so that they are unobtrusive, and I have a maximum of two on each page.

The ads are just an exchange...a way for me to advertise the site. All of the hosting is still coming out of my own pocket. So there is no need to worry about the site descending into ad-hell...I have no intention of permitting more than two ads on any one page on this site.

The actual ad banners are random, but some "ads" (like the Aquapuppies link on the front page) are permanent relevant content. So they arent subject to the ad limit above, since I have full control over them.

So if you have a goldfish-related website you'd like to advertise here for free, please e-mail me with the words "Exotic Goldfish" in the subject line. This is the only way to dodge my spam filter, so if you dont do that, your message will probably get deleted. A link/banner exchagne is appreciated, but not necessary. I am willing to post your "ad" on my site regardless.

Site Update - Finally

April 15, 2008

I've made lots of changes to the site in an attempt to make it more readable. I am still polishing areas of the site (bear with me), but almost all of it is complete.

These changes include:

Reorganizing the navigation links so they are all at the top of the page now.
Including "back to top" links in the body content.
 Deleting broken links.
Consolidating the Fin/Body/color sections of the individual breeds into one section called "Ideal Characteristics".
Added a site index to aid in navigation.
 Added a glossary.
 Completed the Oranda section (Finally).
Updated and corrected many misc facts throughout the site.
Cleaned up the code to make it load faster and display more consistently across the major browsers...this site has been tested on Firefox/Mozilla, Internet Explorer 6.0 and Internet Explorer 7.0.
I decided to get rid of the breeding section. I dont have any hands on experience with breeding goldfish, and thee are other sites that go into it in detail. I will include some of them in the links section.

I will be adding a links page soon, hopefully within the next few days.
